Plants in the Landscape

Judge’s Comments:
"This is a garden that elevates the use of plant material to sculptural levels. Quirky groupings of topiary take on a whimsical and fresh appeal, and yet produce an overriding sense of connection and comfort with the traditional aesthetic of the home. The hardscape and softscape design are seamless and cohesive - each backing and lifting the other. for instance, a curve in the path has a quiet, but meaningful, relationship with a curved massed planting in the garden, then rectilinear forms in the garden quietly echo the outdoor entertaining areas. The retention and integration of the existing and new landscape is joyful. The sinuous branches of a retained (in any other project could have been disposed of for being ‘straggly or in the way of the deck) planting in the deck is firstly heroed and then echoed in the newer plantings with twisted trunks. This is a garden that invites exploration and shines with personality and life."
