Sponsored By: Landscaping Victoria Master Landscapers
Recipient: Rod Hanley
Perfectionist, witty, skilled, larrikin, tenacious, loyal, selfless and devoted are all words people use to describe Rod; they are the same words used whether you are discussing Rod in his work life or talking to his family and friends.
On a trip to a National landscape conference in 2000 we got to know Rod and all his loves: live music (you name them, he goes to see them), Carlton football club (pitting him against his wife Jenny who is an avid Pies supporter), wine (do NOT serve him beer), international and domestic travel (we’re not sure how he actually gets any work done) and of course landscaping. Rod has contributed to the wellbeing of the LIAV/Landscaping Victoria over more years than anyone we can think of. Never one for the limelight but always in the background looking after various portfolio’s and giving quietly of his time, thoughts and knowledge, Rod’s commitment to the landscape industry is second to none.
Whilst on the Board, Rod headed the Membership committee, was the Treasurer and finished his time as Vice President. He was instrumental in building membership, he has worked tirelessly as a judge for the Awards of Excellence over many years, and he played his part with the Board of the day in lobbying government to get this industry licenced. For the past three decades Rod has been present at just about every event or training seminar LV has ever put on … like an old diesel motor he just pushes on … it won’t happen too quickly but Rod gets stuff done … and for this reason we can’t think of a better recipient for Life Membership.
